Dorothy E. Watkinson, 100, of Riverside, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Parkview Manor in Wellman. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Riverside. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Following the committal service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary's Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Compassus of Washington, Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Mary's Catholic Church in memory of Dorothy. Dorothy Elizabeth Colbert was born on Dec. 19, 1921, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Timothy F. and Mary E. (McKevitt) Colbert. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. On June 26, 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to Walter S. Watkinson in Riverside. Dorothy was a clerk for the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for 24 years. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside and volunteered as a Reading Buddy for the Kalona Elementary following her retirement. Dorothy was proud of serving on the planning committee for the new Highland High School. She enjoyed reading, dancing, attending her children's and grandchildren's activities and was known for her noodles, chicken and pies, but most of all, Dorothy loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her children, DeAnn Knebel of Riverside, Sue Hall of Riverside and Bill (Karla) Watkinson of Kalona; son-in-law, Charles Hamilton of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; daughter, Betty Hamilton; son-in-law, Loren Knebel; grandson, Jamie Hamilton; great-grandson, Brant Hamilton; and siblings, Helen (Raymond) Slaughter, Johanna (Carroll) Sleichter, Robert (Lucille) Colbert, Richard Colbert and Timothy Francis Colbert.
