Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Carroll, 86, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private Mass of Christian Burial for family and friends will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with the Rev. David O'Connor officiating. Committal services will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. All invited guests are respectfully requested to wear a facemask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral Mass may be accessed on the church's website, www.stjoesmarion.org, for Dottie's service. Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Dottie was born on Jan. 10, 1934, in Garden Grove, Iowa, one of nine children to Pearl and Clara (Leonard) Richards. She graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1951. Dottie met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Carroll, while both of them were working at Look Magazine in Des Moines. Dick and Dottie were united in marriage on Aug. 1, 1953, in Des Moines. Dick passed away in 2006. Dottie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. She was a gifted crocheter and loved to crochet afghans. Dottie also loved to bake. She liked to garden, but was limited to a small space.
Dottie is survived and lovingly remembered by her four children, Debbie (David) Partridge of Mechanicsville, Va., Rick (Susan) Carroll of Marion, Iowa, Chris (Dora) Carroll of Marion, Iowa, and Mike (Joni) Carroll of Altus, Okla.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Joyce) Richards of Fort Myers, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary Richards of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, Dick Carroll, she was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Marion Richards, Donald Richards, Kenneth Richards, Bill Richards, Bob Richards and Larry Richards; and sister, Betty Moody.
