Dorothy E. Dailey, 96, of Cedar Rapids, peacefully left on Sept. 17, 2014, for her new eternal adventure. A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Diann (Al) Freitag and Janine (John) Petermann; grandchildren, Christopher Petermann, Malinda (Severo) Freitag Quintana, Alyssa Freitag and Dirk Freitag; great-granddaughter, Taryn Quintana; sister, June Farmer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carlton Dailey; brother, Dick (Doris) Svec; brother-in-law, Tom Farmer; and sister-in-law, Beth Ryder.
Dorothy was born Feb. 15, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Milo and Hattie Svec. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1936. A natural athlete, she enjoyed any and all sports. She was state badminton champion in both singles and doubles during the years of 1938-42.
Dorothy and Carlton were married Aug. 9, 1945, in Chicago. Family was first and foremost. Their unwavering steadfast love and support was a great blessing in our lives.
Her family appreciated the great care given by the Higley Mansion nurses, aides and volunteers. She called everyone "Doll Face." The UnityPoint Hospice unit at St. Luke's was a wonderful blessing these last two weeks. Thank you all for your tender care. We love her and miss her already.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice and Higley Mansion.
