Dorothy Marie Cooney, 94, of Cedar Rapids was born on Dec. 10, 1926. She died on Saturday, May 15, 2021, in the care of Hospice of Mercy at Manor Care. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home by Deacon John Winkel. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Pat Mayberry of Cedar Rapids, Don Cooney of Lexington, Ky., and Ann (Wes) Nelson of LeClaire; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Leonard; three brothers, Ralph, Leo and her twin, Donald; her sister, Mildred Blakley; and a granddaughter.
Dorothy graduated from Lone Tree High School and on Nov. 27, 1947, was united in marriage to Leonard Cooney at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. They lived in Iowa City and Mechanicsville before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1965. She had resided at Ridgeview Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids for the last four years.
Dorothy liked to bake bread, cookies and pies. She spent a lot of time outdoors tending to her flowers and vegetable gardens.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
