Dorothy Comried, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Private family funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21.Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Service, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service
at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Richard (Lynn) Comried, Linda (Stan) Karminski, Cheryl (Michael) O'Neill and Laura Comried; grandchildren, Brett (Kris), Angela, Katherine (Collin), Stanley (Melinda), Jessica (Jeff), Stephanie (Thaddeus), Andrew, Marie and Jill (Jamin); and great-grandchildren, Natalee, Ashely, Ethan, Zander, Zayden, Zayla, Everleigh, Ezra and Khloe. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Terry) Bruce and Kay Manu; brother-in-law, Tim Comried; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Laura (Foley) Gordon. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. On March 30, 1952, she married Harold Comried in Caledonia, Minn. Dorothy worked for several years as a tour guide at Quaker Oats and then dedicated her life as a homemaker and caregiver for her family. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Dorothy wrote beautiful poetry and short stories, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and granddaughter, Hailey O'Neill.
Memorials may be directed to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
The family extends a special thank you to the nurses and techs at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for all the care they gave to Dorothy.
