Dorothy C. Baumann, 90, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Monticello, where a funeral service will commence at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Mike Cleeton will officiate at the service.
Dorothy Baumann was born at home, in Wayne Township, Jones County, on Aug. 25, 1928, the daughter of John Henry and Hattie (Heiken) Hinrichs. She attended Wayne No. 5 school and graduated from Monticello High School in 1947. Following graduation, she worked at the Monticello State Bank.
On Oct. 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to William Baumann at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. To this union were born three children, James of Cedar Rapids, Sharon of Dubuque, and Carol of Monticello.
She and William visited the 48 contiguous states and many places in Canada. She assembled scrapbooks of their travels and made many photo albums. She loved to garden, taught Sunday School and was treasurer of Peace Church for many years.
She is survived by her children; four grandchildren, Joe of Coralville, Lucas of Houston, Texas, Jared of Nevada, Iowa, and Diva Emery of Chicago, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren, Violet and Oliver Baumann of Coralville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; four siblings, Wilbur (Betty), Raymond, Paul and Edna Hinrichs; and in-laws, Ed (Leona) Stiffler, John (Bernice) Stiffler and Louise (Vernon) Null.
