Dorothy Marie Bishop, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where a visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Herb Isenberg will officiate. Burial: Rowley Cemetery, Rowley.
Survivors include a sister, N. Maxine Ford of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Bishop; and her sisters, Grace Arnold, Helen Lewis, Marion Milick and Mildred Bishop.
Dorothy was born July 8, 1916, in Rowley, Iowa, the daughter of John and Annabelle (Bartley) Bishop. Dorothy graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. and a master's degree from Colorado State University in Greeley, Colo.
Dorothy was a teacher for the Cedar Rapids school system, teaching at Arthur School and Wright Elementary. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian of Eastern Iowa. She also was a member of Cedar Rapids Retired Teachers, Kappa Gamma, Hesperian Book Club, and a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital for over 43 years.
