Dorothy Ann Bena, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away April 1, 2016, with her family by her side at Mercy Medical Center from pneumonia.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be Tuesday, April 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chapel Stateroom. Burial will follow the funeral service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dorothy was born Aug. 9, 1928, at her aunt's house in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Louis and Libbie (Bulicek) Pisney. On May 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leo Bena.
Dorothy worked over 30 years for the Cedar Rapids school system in food service. She enjoyed playing pinochle every Wednesday and Friday with her friends, watching Linda grow a garden in Dorothy's backyard and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR races and hoping Kyle Busch would win.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Linda (Garret) Wedemeier; grandchildren, Bruce (Tina) Wedemeier and Stacy Wedemeier; two great-grandsons, Chase and Caleb Wedemeier; sister, Pat Sargeant of Kinston, N.C.; sister-in-law, Julia Hulshizer of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and Dorothy's special kitty, Buddy.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents; her in-laws, Wencil and Carrie Bena; her sister, Arlene Dolan; a sister-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
