Dorothy Anne Holmes, 61, of Cedar Rapids, passed away in the home of her sister on Oct. 20, 2022, after suffering a stroke on Saturday, Oct. 15.
She was born Jan. 27, 1961, to William James Alvin Holmes and Agnes Anna Ryan Holmes at Mercy Hospital. She had three children: Andrea, Kevin (Elizabeth) and Nicholas; her grandchildren, Daniel Holmes, Hunter, Lucy, and Miles Chrystal and Alivia Fortmann, and Conner, Riley, Piper and Duncan Clements. She also maintained a loving relationship with the grandparents of her children: Mr. and Mrs. Philip (Sandra) Kelsey as they included her and loved her. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Jim, David (Marilyn), Joseph, Frank, George, Mary (Roger) Roff, Therese (David) Wirtz and Tina (Cody Wade) Holmes. Surviving family also include Pat (Teresa) Kelsey, David (Jen) Kelsey, Barb (Andy) Livin, and Linda Kelsey; along with many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her mother and father, as well as three brothers, James Norbert, Harry John and Patrick Damian; and two sisters, Frances Katheryn and Katheryn Frances.
She attended high school at LaSalle, and later when her kids were older, she returned to school at Kirkwood and obtained her Associate's of Science in banking and finance. She loved Westerns and watching "Bonanza" with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed quilting and during the pandemic made masks for her family and community. In 2020, she was diagnosed with lung cancer and received her treatment from the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center.
Her service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday, Oct. 24; there will be a visitation at 9 a.m., followed by the Mass service at 10 a.m. From there, her remains will be interred at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if desired a donation to the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center may be made.
