Dorothea Glattly, 98, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, at Northwestern Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Ill.
Dorothea was born May 9, 1917, in Clayton County,
Iowa, to Sylvan and Susan (Ellis) Bixby.
Dorothea lived in Mount Vernon from the early '40s to the late '80s, and was active in Eastern Star, DAR and the Methodist Church, and was a member of the Mayflower Society.
She worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids during the '50s and '60s and was proud of her involvement in the space program.
She went back to school to finish her music degree after putting her two older children through college. She taught music in Dysart and Linn-Mar school districts during the '70s and '80s.
Dorothea spent over 25 years of her retirement in Horseshoe Bend, Ark., where she taught 55 Alive defensive and did voluntary driving for others in the community. In 2007, she moved to an assisted-living facility in Batavia, Ill., to be closer to her daughter, Susan.
Survivors include her daughters, Janis (William) Hoover and Susan (Delton) Clark; her son, Richard (Connie) Glattly; five grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and their descendants.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband, Kervin; her brothers, Jim and Sylvan; and her parents.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, Ill., with visitation one hour before the service. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in Mount Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Benevolent Care Fund at The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Pkwy., Batavia, IL 60510.
