Dorland, James Allen
James Allen Dorland, 77, of Springfield, Mo., went to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 14, 2009. Services: 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Greenlawn East Chapel, Springfield., with Pastor John Lindell officiating. Interment: Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a sister, Marlene Deffenbaugh of Milan, Ill.; and three children, Gary Dorland and wife Mickey of Golden, Mo., Judith Newcomer and husband Dale of Lake Geneva, Wis., and David Dorland and wife Wendy of Springfield, Mo.
Jim and Shirley are also blessed with five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. They celebrated 55 years of marriage on Oct. 3, 2009.
Jim's parents and a brother, John Roger, preceded him in death.
Jim was a Boy Scout and member of the Cedar Rapids Drum and Bugle Corp. He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a 30-year volunteer for the Easter Seal Society of Iowa and a member of First Assembly of God Church.
He served his country during the Korean War. He owned and operated Electronic Service Center in Cedar Rapids, and later retired from Rockwell Collins. They moved to Springfield, Mo., in 1997.
