Doris A. Turner, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 29, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a rosary begins at 4 p.m.
Doris is survived by daughters, Susan Clark of St. Joseph, Mo., and Sheri (Randy) Bussey of Cedar Rapids; and Gregg Knapp of Seattle, Wash., who was like a son to Doris. Also surviving are grandchildren, Theresa (Bill) Nester, Julie (Dean Westman) Clark, Maureen Clark, Michael Clark and Erik (Jaime) Bussey; great-grandchildren, Billy Nester, Michael Clark Jr., Chloe Clark, Ashlee Nester, Connor and Kallen Bussey; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Lastuvka of Des Moines and Lindy Turner of Winthrop, Minn.; and nieces and nephews, Mary (Alan) Harris, Amy Flattery, Carol Lastuvka and Tom (Sue Ann) Lastuvka. She also is survived by her lifelong friends, Ruth Archibald and Arlene (ElRoy) Novak, as well as special friends, Karen Cole, and her nurse, Jenny DeBoer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; two brothers, Leo and Joseph Lastuvka; and her son-in-law, Jimmie D. Clark.
Doris was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph Paul and Elsie Elizabeth (Havlena) Lastuvka. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1940 and then attended secretarial school. Doris worked for the Navy Department at Collins Radio Co. in Cedar Rapids, where she met her future husband, William "Bill" Turner. They were married on June 13, 1945, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and were together for almost 63 years at the time of Bill's passing on March 30, 2008.
Doris was the ultimate homemaker. She loved finding new recipes and making holiday cookies to give to friends, enjoyed knitting and crocheting and making beautiful afghans, and many other things. Doris loved to travel with Bill, going shopping, her family and friends, the Chicago Cubs, and watching singer Daniel O'Donnell.
Doris was a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. She was very much loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
