DORIS M. LEEPER
Marion
Doris M. Leeper, 86, of Marion, passed away peacefully at Bickford Cottage in Marion surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inter-ment will follow in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Doris was born May 22, 1930, in Morse, Iowa, to James and Florence (Wonick) Hull. Doris graduated in 1949 from Brooklyn High School in Brooklyn, Iowa, where she played basketball and was a drum majorette and homecoming queen. She married Robert J. Leeper in Brooklyn on Sept. 23, 1950. She was a homemaker and also worked at Armstrong's and Younkers for many years. Her husband's career took them to Cedar Rapids, Illinois, Texas and then to Berkeley Heights, N.J., for eight years, which were some of the happiest times in her life. They settled permanently in Cedar Rapids and lived there for the remainder of their lives.
Doris was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids for many years. She enjoyed going for walks, dancing, playing bridge, interior decorating and entertaining, but above all she loved meeting and talking to people.
Doris dearly loved her husband and family and was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her three children, Patrice (Beauford) Sligh and Becky (Pat) Lynch, both of Cedar Rapids, and James (Gayle) Leeper of Manchester; two grandchildren, Jacob and Michael Lynch of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Jean Knight of Longview, Texas, and Betty Rohr of Schaumburg, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leeper in 1993, and her parents.
The family would like to thank all of the residents and staff from Bickford Cottage in Marion for their love and support, as well as Lee Thoma from Garnett Place for the passionate care given to Doris.
