Doris Adelle Weir Kocher, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Keystone Cedars with her loving family by her side, following a long illness. Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. John Howerton. Burial: Palo Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her loving son, Charles "Terry" (Cindi) Kocher of Marion; two granddaughters, Tricia Tanner of Hiawatha and Tracie (Mark) Margretz of Cedar Rapids; five great-grandchildren, Brandon and Katrina Tanner and Miranda, Mariah and Marissa Margretz; one sister, Lois (Bob) Ducett of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Charles; parents, Robert and Phena Johnson Weir; three brothers and their wives, Merl (Lucille) Weir, Clair (Fayedna) Weir and Glen (Lillian) Weir; one sister, Marie (Delbert) Elson; one sister-in-law, Clara (Eli) Bickel; two infant grandchildren, Kimberly and Kent Kocher; and her mother and father-in-law, Charles and Anna Kocher.
Doris was born April 13, 1919, in Shellsburg, the daughter of Robert and Phena Johnson Weir. She graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1936 and married Charles R. Kocher on June 21, 1941, at the Shellsburg Presbyterian Church. Charles passed away on Feb. 5, 2000. Doris was a member of the Palo United Methodist Church.
Doris enjoyed her loving family, church, many friends, her farm life and the many winters spent in Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Palo United Methodist Church, St. Luke's Hospice or American Heart Association.
