Doris Jean (Clark) Kearney of Des Moines, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 30, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and David Hauge; along with her grandsons, Andrew (Annie) Hauge and Matthew Hauge.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Evan; her son, Jeffrey; and her parents, David and Grace Clark.
Doris Jean Kearney was born May 8, 1926, in Naples, S.D. She graduated from Atkins High School in Iowa, in May 1944. Doris worked as a typist in the Stenographic and Accounting Department at Iowa Electric Light and Power Company in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to Evan Kearney on Aug. 16, 1947.
Doris was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and had many fond memories of the activities she participated in at the church. She maintained a lifelong membership there. Doris was also a life member of St. Luke's Methodist Hospital Auxiliary. Later, she became a homemaker and devoted her love and time to her family and home. Her many interests consisted of involvement in her children's activities, ballroom dancing with Evan, basketball, both as a participant in high school and later as a Hawkeye fan, traveling with her family, reading, playing games and enjoying music. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Doris and Evan moved to Des Moines in 1984. They became associate members of West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m Wednesday, April 2, at Dunn's Funeral Home on Grand Avenue, Des Moines. The family will greet friends one hour before the service time. Private burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Scottish Rite Park Health Care Center.
