Doris Jean Snyder, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at Mercy Hallmar. Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Church. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is caring for Doris and her family.
Doris was born Aug. 20, 1937, to the late Ivanor and Marie (Bezdek) Hamilton in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in 1955, she married Jerry R. Snyder Sept. 3, 1955, and together they raised six children, first on the family farm in Onslow, Iowa, and then on their acreage in Cedar Rapids.
Doris loved gardening and being outdoors. She grew gorgeous flowers and plentiful vegetables in her large gardens. She worked at Square D for many years before retiring, and then after completing coursework in accounting, worked for Perkins Restaurant. Doris’s joy in later life came with spending time with her grandchildren and her precious great-grandchildren. Her great grandkids made her face light up and heart sing.
Doris is survived by her six children, Jean (Art) Paschke of Mesa, Ariz., and their children, Chris (Michelle) Paschke and Amy (Tony) Jusino; Janet (Jim) Fosdick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and their children, Jenny (Paul) Bramall, Jamie (Josh) Hall, and John (Rachel) Fosdick; Dave Snyder of Romania; Joann Snyder of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Joyce Englert (Jeff Wilken) of Anamosa, Iowa, and children, Eden (Cade) Hoversten, Elissa (Damon) Rogers and Evan (Teagan) Englert; and Dan (Michelle) Snyder of Colleyville, Texas, and son, John.
Doris is also survived by her dear great-grandchildren, Jacob, Payton, Kaden, Madelyn, Brynlee, Evelyn, Charlotte, Layla, Archie, Dottie and soon-to-be-born baby boy Fosdick; her brothers, Roger Hamilton, Lyle Hamilton and Steve Hamilton; and her sister-in-law, Janette Hamilton.
Doris’s husband Jerry preceded her in death in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law, Mabel Snyder; father-in-law, Howard Snyder; her sister, Charlene (Jim) Klein; her brothers, Dean (Betty) Hamilton, Dick Hamilton and Keith (Elaine) Hamilton; and sisters-in-law, JoAnn Hamilton and Lorraine Hamilton.
Doris’s family would like to thank the compassionate health-care professionals who cared for her over the years through the Mercy Care system, Terrace Glen Village and Mercy Hallmar.
