DORIS "JEAN" SIMON
Cedar Rapids
Doris "Jean" Simon, 92, peacefully passed on May 25, 2022, surrounded by her family. Private memorial services were held on Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids were in charge of arrangements.
Jean was born July 23, 1929, to Maude and Ralph Russell in Grinnell, Iowa, and was one of seven siblings. She was a beautician and an instructor at Paris Academy, owned a beauty salon for several years, worked at Armstrong's, and later volunteered at St. Luke's and Mercy hospitals. She enjoyed beautifying her home and gardens, baking Christmas candy and cooking for her family (her scalloped potatoes and ham were a favorite). She loved music, travel, crafts, flowers, birds, clothes and jewelry, the color purple, peanut butter cups, bananas, and vanilla ice cream.
Jean is survived by her children, Linda (David) White, Dennis (Susie) Lamprecht and Deborah Lebeda in addition to nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Don Russell; and her longtime friend, Shirley Wieland.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, five siblings, her husband, George Lebeda (1950-1968); and beloved husband, Fire Lieutenant Robert Simon.
Jean's family would like to thank the staff and caregivers for their loving kindness and tender care at Hiawatha Care Facility, her home for several years.
