Doris I. (Buechler) Finck, 94, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines with a visitation from 1 p.m. until service time. A private family entombment will be at Resthaven Mausoleum.
Doris was born April 10, 1928, in Boone, Iowa, to Charles and Elsie (Wilson) Buechler. She graduated from Jordan Consolidated School in 1946 and then attended Boone Junior College and Simpson College. Doris graduated from Drake University with a B.S. in teaching. She taught at numerous schools in Iowa and Minnesota. She ended her 38 years of teaching in Waukee, Iowa. Doris taught grade school, middle school and the last half of her career teaching students with learning disabilities. She was a member of West Des Moines Methodist Church, West Des Moines Women’s Club, PEO-MA, book clubs, and New Beginnings Circle. Doris enjoyed growing flowers, traveling with her husband, watching basketball and baseball (especially the Chicago Cubs).
Doris is survived by her son, Kevin (Linda Suzanne); son-in-law, Joseph Van Drasek; and grandsons, Darren (Wendy) Van Drasek and great-granddaughter, Karen, and Brian (Siryi) Van Drasek and great-granddaughters, Sophia and Emily. She leaves many relatives and friends that she knew and worked with and enjoyed over the years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth; daughter, Karen Van Drasek; parents, Charles and Elsie Buechler; sister, Irma; and brothers; Marvin (Arlene) and Eugene (Marjorie) Buechler.
The family would like to thank the staff of Terrace Glen Village Assisted Living for their care and kindness. The family would also like to thank the staff at The Lodge of Ashworth for their many years of dedication to Ken and Doris.
