Doris B. Griswold, 94, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014.
She was a resident of The Meth-Wick Community, where she had lived since selling her home on Shasta Court in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1994.
Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A Celebration of Life service will be at a later date.
She is survived by her younger sister, Delpha Mae Baken and husband Dick of Stillwater, Minn. She is also survived by her three sons, Robert Jr. and his wife, Alex, Scott and his wife, Pam, of California, and Jon and his wife, Phyllis, of Cedar Rapids. Doris had six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Doris was born in 1919 in Farmington, Minn., the daughter of Melferd and Amy Halling, and married W. Robert Griswold in 1941. They lived in Minneapolis and Fergus Falls, Minn., before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1949, a few months after Robert joined Collins Radio Co.
In addition to raising three boys, Doris worked as a dental assistant, working her way up to office manager. She also was active in PEO (women's business organization), was an active bridge player in Fourscore and a volunteer with hospice. She continued her volunteer activities at The Meth-Wick Community after moving there, doing errands for those with limited mobility and reading to those who had limited sight.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or Hospice of Mercy of Cedar Rapids.
