Dorene Kay Doehrmann, 56, formerly of Iowa City and Williamsburg, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a long illness and hospitalization.
Dorene was born March 13, 1960, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Deloris (Collingwood) Doehrmann of Williamsburg.
Dorene was confirmed in 1973 at Bethesda Lutheran Home, Watertown, Wis., where she spent several years as a child receiving an education. She attended West High School in Iowa City, graduating in 1979.
Dorene faced many challenges throughout her entire life, yet she fiercely cherished her independence. She had many interests and never ceased learning. She loved animals and had an avid interest in gemstones, jewelry and beading.
She is survived by her parents; siblings, Anita (Chris) Hansen of Cedar Rapids, Ralph Doehrmann of Marion, Beverly Smith of Cedar Falls, Catherine (Tom) Crawford of Gaffney, S.C., Esther Hickman of Johnson Creek, Wis., and Arlen and Russell Doehrmann of Williamsburg; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Dorene was preceded in death by an infant brother, Victor; a nephew; and both sets of grandparents.
Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 24, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and designated for the fund to refurbish a restroom for handicap accessibility.
