Dorene Dahms, 95, of Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Private graveside services will be held. Anderson Funeral Homes of Gladbrook has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.
Dorene was born on a farm south of Gladbrook on Feb. 1, 1926, to Chester and Hilda (Hagen) Allard. She graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1943 as valedictorian. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and graduated in 1947 with a BA in business education. She taught business classes at Waverly High School for five years. Dorene's parents died in 1947 so she moved to town with her aunt and uncle, Sadie and Chancey Allard. Next door lived William and Martha Dahms and their son, Leonard. Leonard and Dorene were married on July 6, 1952. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, where Leonard was employed at Rockwell Collins. They raised two sons and celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2012. Leonard and Dorene were members of the Camera Club, Theater Organ Society and Kenwood Park Methodist Church. They had two large gardens and made their kids pull weeds. They enjoyed ballroom dancing to Big Band music where they met many new friends.
Dorene was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard.
She is survived by two sons, David Dahms of Windsor, Colo., and Richard Dahms of Gladbrook, Iowa.
