Doreen "Sue" Curry, 85, of Hiawatha, Iowa, died Monday, July 5, 2021, at her home with her daughter Susan by her side. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A reception will be held immediately afterwards at Chappy's Safari Lounge, Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Sue was born May 12, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Cleo and Matilda (Chadima) Darrow. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1954. She performed in the Emerald Knights Drum & Bugle Corp. from junior high through high school and later became an advisor. Sue was united in marriage to William E. "Bill" Curry on Sept. 28, 2001. Prior to her retirement, she worked at Rockwell Collins for 36 years as an inspector. Sue was a union member for IBEW 1360 and was a union steward.
Sue was a dedicated and award-winning dog agility course trainer. She was a member of the Curly Coat Retrievers Club and the 4RK9 Club in Cedar Rapids. Sue enjoyed taking her dogs to visit hospitals and nursing homes to show off their square dancing talents.
Survivors include her children, Mark (Lisa) Thompson of Middleton, Idaho, Tommy (Wendy) Thompson, Scott (Julie) Thompson, Susan (Mark) Thompson, all of Cedar Rapids, and Deb Rodden of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a seventh on the way; sister, Kathy (Lee) McCarty; dear friends, Rosie, Billie, Linda Lou, Linda Lucas and Pam Jensen; many nieces and nephews; as well as her favorite pain in the ass, Ryan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Cleo and Matilda; husband, Bill in 2014; and brothers, Dan (Char) Darrow and Tom Darrow.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Mercy, especially her nurse, Jess.
