Donohue, Elizabeth 'Betty' E.
Elizabeth “Betty” E. Donohue, 87, longtime resident of Coralville, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Legacy Gardens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father David Hitch officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
Betty was born Jan. 24, 1926, in Cosgrove, Iowa, the daughter of Edward F. and Mary Murphy McCabe. She was a graduate of Cosgrove High School and attended Marycrest College. On Sept. 23, 1947, Betty married Francis J. Donohue at St. Patrick's Church in Iowa City.
Betty worked in the department of pediatrics at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 1971 to 1979 and then became program associate for human subject review committee from 1979 until her retirement in 1990.
She was a member of St. Thomas More Church and was the church representative at Shelter House. Betty enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her four children, Patrice (Casey) Barton of Chicago, Jacquie (Dan) Larisey of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., and Michael (Jean) Donohue and Beth Nicholson, both of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren, Trent (Stacey), Erin (Dan), Brian (Catherine), Anna (Danny), Patrick (Stacy), Courtney, Lee, Gayle, Jeffrey, Morgan, Adam (Aubrey), and Emma; and four great-grandchildren and two expectant.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Gary; granddaughter, Mary Catherine; son-in-law, Howard; six brothers; and four sisters.
