Donohoe, Patrick Louis 'Lou'
Patrick Louis “Lou” Donohoe, 83, of Marion, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, by the Rev. John Gossman. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Susan Donohoe (Steve “Boyd” Gunn) of Cedar Rapids, and their children, Emily, Molly and Colin Gunn; Brian Donohoe of Marion, and his children, Bradley Donohoe, Amanda (Chris) Cseh and Patrick Donohoe; and Sharon (David) Loecher of Marion, and their children, Jana, John and Natalie Loecher; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brennan Cseh.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; his parents; six brothers and two sisters.
Lou was born Aug. 27, 1926, the son of Thomas and Amelia (Griffin) Donohoe, in rural Iowa County, Iowa, and grew up around Holbrook, Iowa. He married Eileen Henry on June 23, 1956, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Bluffton, Iowa. She died Oct. 22, 2004. Lou served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in China as a military policeman. He was employed by Frito-Lay for over 30 years. Lou was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion American Legion Post 298, Elks Club of Cedar Rapids and VFW Post 788.
Lou will be remembered as a loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather. His sense of humor, fun-loving spirit and quick wit will be missed.
