Donna F. Sander, age 76 of Lowden, passed away on Sunday April 28, 2024, surrounded by her family at UIHC in Iowa City, after a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 2, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden at 10:30 A.M with Pastor Daniel Redhage officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Lowden. Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence on Wednesday, May 1.
Donna was born on April 14, 1948, in Sheldon, IA. She was adopted by Erwin and Lenora Wenndt. Donna was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. She graduated Lowden High School in 1966 and then attended Stewart Beauty Academy in Davenport for a year. She married David Sander on March 3, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran in Lowden. Three days after being married, the couple moved to Alaska where Dave was stationed with the Army, and Donna worked in downtown Fairbanks as a beautician. Two years later, the couple relocated back to Lowden and began farming for the next 20 years. To this union, three children were born. She retired from the North Cedar Community School District after 29 years.
Donna enjoyed camping, cooking/baking, gardening, being on the farm, and sponsoring 29D. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved watching her grandkids in sporting events, racing go-karts, and growing up. She loved her family to the very end.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Sander of Lowden; 3 sons, Doug (Sara) Sander of Rock Island, Dan (Colette) Sander and Dean (Kelly) Sander of Clarence; 7 grandchildren, Hannah (Jay), Blake, Colin, Austyn, Kayla (Chase), Olivia and Jaxon; and brother, Denny Wenndt of Lowden.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother-in-law, and infant grandson.
The family would like to thank Lowden Rescue, Clarence Ambulance, Tipton Ambulance and the UIHC staff for their dedication and compassion shown to our wife/mom/grandma during this time.
Memorials may be directed to Lowden Rescue and/or Clarence Ambulance Services.
