Donna R. Perdew, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023, while in the compassionate care of Horizon’s Home Hospice at the home of her daughter Cathy. Per Donna’s request, a private inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, where she had lived since 1979 until recently. Entrusted with arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Donna was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Merritt and Angely (McKown) Banta. Donna had many wonderful stories about growing up in the homestead with her mother, father, brother, and grandparents. Many aunts and uncles would come frequently for family dinners and the house was always filled with laughter and music.
Donna graduated from Hammond High School in 1953 and then worked for JC Penney Company where she met her husband, Bill. Bill and Donna were married on Nov. 26, 1955. Donna’s greatest joy was raising her five children and running the household. She loved decorating her home and gardening. She had a beautiful yard admired by many. She enjoyed having family over for the holidays. The house was always beautifully decorated with plenty of good food to eat and lots of noise and laughter. As her children grew up and bought houses of their own, Donna was there to help with the landscape design, to put up wallpaper, and paint. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing puzzles and crewel work. Donna also cherished her time with her good friends from the church thrift store where she had volunteered in years past.
Donna is survived by her four sons, Michael, Scott (Rosie), Gary, and Kevin; one daughter, Cathy (Dave); 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, William; brother-in-law, Alan; and many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, and many other adored relatives and friends over the years.
The family would like to thank all of Donna’s special neighbors in Cedar Rapids for all their kindness and assistance in helping Donna over the past several years. Your kindness will never be forgotten. They would also like to thank their special angel, Martha. There are no words to express our gratitude for your love and care of Donna.
