DONNA PLOTZ
Cedar Rapids
Donna Ann Plotz, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following complications of a stroke. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2, from 4 to 7
p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Friends and family may visit then or after 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the church. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude Catholic Church, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Donna is survived by her family and close friends who loved her deeply: daughter, Cheryl Plotz, and son, Steve (Anne) Plotz, of Cedar Rapids; four stepgrand-children, Jerry Lorenson, Jenny (Garald) Rivers, Jeff Lorenson and Josh (Sarah) Lorenson; great-grand-child, Roman; brothers, Bob (Mary) Waite of Goodell and Richard (Bonnie) Waite of Red Bud, Alaska; cherished friends and neighbors, Jeanette and Jack Ernst; and her beloved cats, Charlie and Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (2002); brothers, Eugene and William Waite; and sister, Carolyn Rozenberg.
Donna was born July 1, 1932, in rural Hartwick, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Cooper) Waite. She married Gerald Joseph Plotz on Nov. 17, 1952, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked for 30 years at Rockwell Collins as a test technician, retiring in 1987.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for its kind and compassionate care of Donna in her last days. Special thanks to Dr. Tork Harmon and the staff of Mercy Medical Center Pain Clinic and to physical therapist Ted Kepros.
We learned a lot from our mom about courage through adversity as she lived with debilitating rheumatoid arthritis for nearly 50 years.
She loved animals and always cheered for the underdog. She was a lifelong Cubs fan and would not miss a Cedar Rapids Kernels game if at all possible.
Memorials may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation, Hospice of Mercy or the animal care/rescue organization of your choice.
