Donna J. O'Loughlin, 82, of Independence, died Friday, May 18, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
She was born Aug. 18, 1935, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred J. and Mary C. (Nolan) Puff. She attended the Fayette County country schools and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Oelwein in 1952. She went on to study at Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque and received her degree in 1955. On May 11, 1957, she married the love of her life, James Lawrence O'Loughlin, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. They made their home in Independence. Throughout her years, Donna worked as a registered nurse at People's Hospital in Independence and St. John's Catholic School, and worked at the Mental Health Institute for over 20 years.
Donna loved reading and going to the casinos. She always had her door open to family and friends and enjoyed spending time talking with people at the many gatherings she hosted throughout the years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the St. John's Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters. She will forever be remembered for her quick wit and her generous heart.
Donna is survived by her children, Michael (Bobbie) O'Loughlin, Independence, Peg O'Loughlin, Independence, Tim O'Loughlin, Oelwein, Theresa (Randy) Endres, Independence, Maureen (John) Navara, Tiffin, and Colleen O'Loughlin, Denver, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Julie Sexton, Cedar Rapids; and two brothers, Dr. Michael Puff, Oelwein, and John Puff, Oelwein.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mary Puff; her husband, James O'Loughlin; an infant son, James Lawrence O'Loughlin; two brothers, Tom and Richard Puff; and a daughter-in-law, Karri O'Loughlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Independence. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence. A rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
