Donna Mae Morrissey, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at her home in Marion, surrounded by loved ones. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion. Memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Jeff Frohner officiating. Inurnment will be at Mount Vernon Cemetery at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Donna was born on June 4, 1934, in Rural Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Jennie (Luchtenburg) Doescher. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and went on to graduate from Allen College of Nursing in 1956. On April 13, 1957, Donna was united in marriage to Charles “Barry” Morrissey in Davenport, Iowa. In 1973, they built and opened Winslow House Care Center, where they were the owners and operators for over 30 years. Donna was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and Sorosis Women’s Group. She traveled all over the world with her daughters, friends and family. Donna enjoyed her flower gardens, but her life was her family and church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Donna is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Molly (Mike) Tackaberry of Winona, Minn., and their children, Sydney (Catie) Steinman Tackaberry of Oakland, Calif., and Channing (Josh) Tackaberry of Chicago, Ill.; Donna’s daughter, Holly (Greg) Lewis of Tiffin, Iowa, and their child, Hudson Lewis of Iowa City, Iowa; Donna’s daughter, Suzanne Elias of Marion, and her child, Brynn (Brett) Merck of Marion and their children, Noland and Margaux; sisters, Donita (Harry) Baker of La Quinta, Calif., and Belva (Mike) Power of Farmington, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Roger Doescher; sister-in-law, Judy Doescher; and her beloved niece, Jill Wulff.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donna’s memory may be directed to the family.
