Donna Arlene McLain Foege, 79, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, from complications of ALS. The family will greet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Linda Livingston. Private family inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Donna was born March 22, 1939, in Pocahontas, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Arlene (Fry) McLain Sr. She graduated from Pocahontas High School. Donna was employed at Washington Elementary in Marion as a librarian and at Donutland Corporate. She was one of the first employees at TeleConnect and retired from MCI in 2000. Donna was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint and sewing. Donna also loved her coffee dates with the girls. Known as "Grandma Donna" to many, she always was willing to share a Band-Aid or piece of gum. However, her greatest love of all was her family and she always attended her grandchildren's events. Donna will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her significant other, Jack Edmunds of Marion; daughter, Annette (Rob) Martin Henry of Cedar Rapids; sons, Jon (Carmen Badan) Foege of Naples, Fla., and Steve (Deb) Foege of Central City; five grandchildren, Blair (Ricky) Ganem of Indianola, Noah Foege of Central City, Mitchell Martin of Iowa City, Lydia Martin of Cedar Rapids and Luke Martin of Cedar Rapids; one great-grandson, Henry Ganem of Indianola; one sister, Marilyn (Ron) Meeske of Prosser, Wash.; one brother, Donnie (Carol) McLain Jr. of Pocahontas; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents.
