Donald Yirkovsky, 65, of Swisher, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, surrounded by his family at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Don was born in Mason City, Iowa, on Sept. 15, 1953 to James and Bernadette (Steffes) Yirkovsky. Don attended the Marion schools. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973 being stationed in Okinawa. Japan. After returning from the service, he worked for a few siding contractors before starting his own siding business, Apollo Siding Co. On Oct. 15, 1976, he married Linda Einwalter in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Swisher American Legion Post 671, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, Western movies and especially loved his chocolate Lab, Maddie.
Don is survived by his wife, Linda; their children, Missy (Terry) Pump of Cedar Rapids and Brent (Shayla) Yirkovsky of Swisher; also surviving are his grandchildren, which were the love of his life, Brylee, Kynsee, Treyton and Lincoln; siblings, Joe (Connie) Yirkovsky of Schleswig, Iowa, Sharon Merwin, Sandy Wyatt, Bonnie (Lyle) Himes, Roger (Tammy) Yirkovsky, Jeff Yirkovsky and Bill (Lisa) Yirkovsky, all of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Kendrick Pump.
A gathering will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A public graveside with military rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Garden of Tranquility.
