DONALD WOHLENBERG
Coralville
Donald L. Wohlenberg, 86, longtime resident of Coralville, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville.
Donald Louis Wohlen-berg was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Louis and Florence (Benson) Wohlenberg. Following graduation from Clinton High School, he enrolled at the University of Iowa, where he graduated with a degree in chemistry. Don was united in marriage to Charlotte L. Johnson on Sept. 15, 1950, in
Iowa City.
For a short time he worked as a chemist for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle and lived in Los Angeles before coming back to
Iowa, where they settled in Coralville. For many years he worked for the Iowa City VA Health Care System.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, camping, canoeing the boundary waters, hiking, running the back roads of Johnson County and taking trips to the raptor center with his grandchildren. He always had his gardens, a camera around his neck and liked to work with wood in his workshop.
He was a man of great intelligence, everything in his world was physics; he could speak a number of different languages, and he physically loved the sport of taekwondo.
His family includes his daughter and her husband, Becky and Kent Pearson of North Liberty; grandchildren, Melissa Isbelle (Gabe) and Shannon Cutsforth (Patrick); and great-grandchildren, Forest, Willow and Asher Isbell, all of North Liberty; and a nephew, Michael Rafferty.
Cremation services have been provided through Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City.
Online condolences may be sent for his family through the Web at www.
