Donald William Zahradnik, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died on Friday, July 30, 2021, at St. Lukes Hospital. Celebration
of Life services will be
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to
7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Brosh Chapel.
Don was born July 15, 1938, to William and Clara (Pretlik) Zahradnik and grew up on the family farm near Ely. He was united in marriage to Karla Jasa on Oct. 6, 1968, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Prior to Don's retirement from St. Luke's Hospital as a lock smith in the maintenance department he worked for B&E Machine, Cryovac, Custom Cabinets and owned his own construction company. Don enjoyed spending time with his dog Charlie, caring for his own farm and solving all the world's problems over coffee at Tommy's with close friends Duane Coonrod and Fred Madison.
Don is survived by his children, Roger Zahradnik (Trish) of Oshkosh, Wis., Barb Klein (Tom) and Dave Zahradnik (Karla) of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter, Becki Stevens (Mike) of Ashburn, Va.; grandchildren, Anthony, Dustin, Drew, Lauren, Colin, Julia, Nicole and Sarah; six great-grandchildren; brother, Vernon (Mary) of Central City; sisters, Nancy O'Toole of Chicago, Ill., and Cyndi Osdoba (Dave) of Mound, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents and wife, Karla.
Memorials may be directed to the Last Hope Animal Rescue.
