Donald J. "Ding" Weldon, 83, of Marshall-town, formerly of North Liberty, passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 5, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, with the service beginning at noon.
Survivors include his sons, Brook (Kindee) Weldon of Swisher and Brian (Cammy) Weldon of Waterloo; daughter, Jill (Brent) Schlotfeldt of Center Point; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Evelyn Weldon; son, Bart; and nine brothers and sisters.
Donald was born June 22, 1932, in Holbrook, Iowa, at the family farm and raised in Parnell. He was the son of William "Bill" and Evelyn (Sullivan) Weldon. He graduated from Parnell High School. Donald joined the Air Force and served during the Korean conflict. He was a "boss mechanic" on second shift and was responsible for 101 planes. After serving in the Air Force, he worked for Square D for 33 years.
Donald enjoyed softball, baseball and coaching basketball, and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
