Donald "Don" Vest, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016. Services will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; children, Marilyn Struchen, Joanne Vest and Gary Vest, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Ruth (Jon) Klover of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Sammy (Michal) Kray, Andrew Gutshall, Morgan (Dustin Bumgarner) Vest, Vivian Vest, Aaron Gutshall, Alexa Gutshall, Hayden Vest, Austin Vest and Jasmine Vest; great-grandchildren, Sophie and Jordy Bumgarner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Howard.
Don was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Webster City, Iowa, son of Howard and Sarah (Skorpen) Vest. He graduated from Humboldt High School. Don graduated from Iowa State University in 1956 with a degree in electrical engineering and from Coe College in 1996, with a degree in mathematics. On Feb. 24, 1962, Don and Carol Hayden were united in marriage. He worked for Iowa Electric Light & Power Co. (Alliant Energy), retiring in 1990.
Don was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Iowa State Alumni Association and H.A.W.K. and was past president of Jefferson Band Parents. He enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye wrestling and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
