Donald H. Toale, 60, of Independence, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Buchanan County Health Center,
Independence, of injuries suffered in an
automobile accident.
Don was born Jan. 11, 1956, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Francis M. and Clara R. (DePape) Toale. He was a 1974 graduate
of St. John's Catholic High School. On Dec. 11, 1976, he was married to Mardene (Marty) C. Ohrt. The couple farmed near Independence. He loved spending time with his
family and enjoyed farming, cooking, going grocery shopping and traveling.
Don is survived by his wife, Marty; three children, Mark (Lacey) Toale, Independence, Amanda (Daniel) Dvorak, Windsor Heights, and Andrea Toale, Cedar
Rapids; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Clara Toale, Independence; two sisters, Rosemary (Ronald) Engelhardt, Elkader, and Sue (Tom) Knapp, Des Moines; three brothers, Richard (Ann) Toale, Independence, Roger Toale, Irving, Calif., and Msgr. Rev. Thomas Toale, Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Toale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with Msgr. Rev. Thomas Toale and the Rev. Don Plamondon concelebrating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Thursday.
