Donald G. Tegeler, 82, of Dyersville, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery.
Donald was born March 19, 1934, on the family farm near Earlville, the son of Gregor and Mathilda (Billmeyer) Tegeler. He married Patricia A. Willenbring on Nov. 24, 1952, in Luxemburg. She preceded him in death in 1998. He later married Cathy Willis from Colorado on Oct. 3, 2003. Together, they organized a local Parkinson's Support Group in Dyersville. Don was a certified electrician at John Deere Dubuque Works for 38 years and was a member of UAW Local 94. In his spare time, his hobbies were collecting and restoring vintage Camaros and he enjoyed playing music at nursing homes. His last big thrill was seeing the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in 2016.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy; sons, Bob Tegeler and David (Karen) Tegeler; daughters, Debra (friend Wayne Pearce) Kruse and Sherry (Terry) Thier, all of Dyersville; grandchildren, Dawn (Brent) Schroeder, Rachael (Aaron) Plein, Matt Tegeler, Zach Tegeler, Jonathon (Kayla), Danielle Tegeler, Travis (Kristie) Thier, Justin and Robbie Thier; five great-grandchildren, Addilyn and Luke Plein, Kirsten and Dylan Schroeder and MaKenzie Thier; two sisters, Lou Overman of Dyersville and Bernice Holub of Prairieburg; stepbrother, Herb Tegeler of Dyersville; stepsister, Mary Jean Westhoff of New Vienna; and in-laws, Gloria Maiers, Diane (Bill) Ernzen, Marlene (Ray) Schlarmann, Donna Willenbring, Elaine Willenbring and Bev Tegeler of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia; one son, James Tegeler; daughter-in-law, Sandy Tegeler; siblings, infant Lucille Tegeler, Elmer (Edna), Ray (Irene), Tony (Dorothy), Gib (Sedelle) Tegeler, Helen (Wilfred) Kramer, Norma (Herb Platz and Lawrence Deppe), Leona (August) Gudenkauf and Marcella (Fritz) Bries; and in-laws, Irv Overman, Earl Holub, Daniel, Dennis and Richard Willenbring and Vernon Maiers.
