Donald Souchek, 89, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello,
with military honors. Interment will be in Czech National Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet (Meryl) Hartung, Mount Vernon, and Joan (Rick) Wine-gardner, Norfolk, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Louise Hasenbank, Clarence, and Faith Strackbein, Lowden; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; an infant daughter, Gail Denise; a son, Valon Souchek, in 2013; and a grandson, Adam Robinson.
Donald Raymond Souchek was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Val and Liddie Rubek Souchek. Don graduated from Stanwood High School. Donald Souchek married Marie Strackbein on June 5, 1948, at Zion Evangelical and Reform Church, Lowden.
The couple lived in Cedar Rapids, where Don worked as a floor covering installer. The couple moved to Monticello in 1975 and Don worked for Hargrave Furniture and later Phil's Furniture, installing flooring.
Don and Marie loved to go camping and would travel to Florida, Texas or Arizona in the winter months to spend several weeks in their camper as well. In his spare time he also enjoyed woodworking.
