Donald H. Searle, 88, of Marion, longtime Marshalltown resident, died early Sunday morning, March 23, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 28, at First Baptist Church in Marshalltown. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, with full military honors by the combined posts of Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post 839 and American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post 46. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church in Marshalltown or Hospice of Mercy, 701 10th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.

Born July 3, 1925, in Marshalltown, he was the only child born to Howard A. and Olive Grace (Rubenbauer) Searle. He graduated from Marshalltown High School's class of 1942 and soon served our country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. Don was trained as a pilot.
On Jan. 18, 1948, Donald was united in marriage to C. Jean Swift in Gilman. They farmed near Marshalltown. Don served on the board of directors for the REC, MMSC (formerly MACH), the LeGrand and LDF school boards, Fidelity Brenton Bank and the Marshall-town Senior Citizens.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Lee (Cheryl) Searle of Marshalltown, Joan (Larry) Nesset of Marion and Lisa Searle of Marshall-town; grandchildren, Lindsay (Ryan) Dea and Matt (Amy) Searle; and great-grandchildren: Gage and Blake Searle and Emma and Andrew Dea.
In death, Don rejoined his beloved Jean, who died July 3, 2011, and his parents, Howard and Olive.
