Donald "Don" Reilly, 75, of Coggon, passed away due to injuries sustained in a farm accident on Monday, March 17, 2014. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Manchester, with a rosary beginning at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monti. The family will greet friends one hour before the Mass. The Rev. Donald Plamondon will officiate. Burial: St. Patrick's Cemetery, Monti.
Don was born Feb. 16, 1939, to Packy and Elizabeth (Ward) Reilly. Don graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Ryan in 1957. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army. Don was united in marriage with Mona McDonald on Sept. 3, 1962. He and Mona have been active members in the community and at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monti.
Don was a dedicated farmer, husband and father, having spent his entire life on the family century farm. He enjoyed volunteering with the Marion Public Library and was an avid Packer fan and card player.
He left this life exactly the way an Irish farmer would have wanted; in his work boots on St. Patrick's Day.
Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mona; two sons, Mark (Carrie) Reilly of Cedar Rapids and Robert Reilly of Chicago; three daughters, Mary (Brent) Hoefling of Texarkana, Texas, Kerry (Joel) Peyton of Winthrop and Kaylene (Cory) Christnovich of Madison, Wis.; seven grandchildren, MyLisa, Jordan, Raigan, Carson, Reilly, Patrick and Benjamin; two great-grandchildren, AdahLisa and Forest; four sisters, Rita Gatens, Jeanne (Emmet) Dolan, Donna Wagner and Marge (Dave) Strang; in-laws, Dorrance and Emogene McDonald and Jerry and Jody Doyle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Don in death were his infant daughter, Kathy Ann; infant son, Michael; daughter, Maureen Wolf; his parents; sister, Marilyn Murrin; brother, Tommy Reilly; and infant sister, Mary Katherine.
Memorials may be directed to Don's family to be distributed to charities in his memory.
