Donald "Pete" Hansen, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services with military rites at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include his wife, Elfriede; his two sons, Scott (Sarah) of Iowa City and Michael (Patrick Carlin) of Marion; and a brother, James (Doris) of Dubuque. He also is survived by two grandsons, Evan and Miles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Virginia Clark and Sarah Brown.
Pete was born July 14, 1934, in Rochester, Minn., the son of Jesse and Harriet Johnson Hansen. He graduated from Olin Consolidated School in 1953. He married Elfriede Markmann on May 27, 1960, in Wyoming, Iowa.
Pete graduated from DeVry Tech in Chicago and was the owner and operator of Pete Hansen Communications for many years.
Pete was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church and proudly served in the Air Force. He was an avid Iowa women's basketball fan and was a 30-year season ticket holder. Pete enjoyed visiting, Cadillacs, and had the privilege and honor of going on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in 2015. He will be forever remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
