Donald William Muenzenmeyer, 66, of Marshalltown, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home. Memorial services for Don will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date. Further visitation will be at the UAW Hall after the services. Additional details available from the family. Don Muenzenmeyer was born Feb. 13, 1950, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to William Michael and Helen Marie Milligan Muenzenmeyer. On March 5, 1971, Don was united to Kathy Nelson in Eddyville, Iowa. Don had worked for Lennox Industries for 35 years and retired in 2008. Don enjoyed fishing, going on vacations and wood-working. Don and Kathy opened their hearts and home to numerous foster children throughout the years. Above everything else, Don truly cherished the time with his family.
Don is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy; children, Melissa Muenzenmeyer of Marshalltown, Michelle (James) Fortner of Marietta, Ga., Mareah (Jeff) Simpson of Newton, Colton Muenzenmeyer of Northfield, Minn., and Isaac Muenzenmeyer of Marshalltown; grand-children, Brieanna, Tyler, Hannah, Emma Lauren and Emma Grace; siblings, Donna (David) Oliphant of Cedar Rapids and Kay (Terry) Gill of Albion; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and foster children.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen; and his brother, Gene Muenzenmeyer.
