Donald Monk, 91 died Thursday evening, May 16, 2024 at the Anamosa Care Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Monday, May 20, 2024, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call after 9:00 at the church. Pastor David Raemisch will officiate at the services. Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.
Surviving is his wife of almost 68 years Janet, 4 children, Douglas (Micaela), Stephen (Lisa), Karen (Steve) Siefert, Kimberly (Loren) Boyd, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one on the way., his siblings, Rose (Bill) Dougherty, John (Marcia) Monk and in-laws, Dr. Dale and Althea Hein and Donna Fluckiger.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald Henry Monk was born June 10, 1932, at Langworthy, Iowa, the son of John and Marie Otten, Monk.
Don graduated from the Monticello Community schools in 1951. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Don married Janet Fluckiger on August 5, 1956 at S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church. Don wore many hats. His big loves were construction and farming for 50 years. The couple moved to Monticello from the farm in 2018. Don loved living on the farm and Janet liked it. Janet loved living in town and Don liked it. In his spare time, he collected cars and sold investments, but what he valued most was time spent with his family.
