Donald "Mike" Bonney,
76, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cedar Memorial Certified Celebrant Paula Meyer will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where there will be Masonic rites at 7 p.m.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Flores (Richard) of Ottumwa and Amy Jo Cejka of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Mike (Becky) of Atlantic and Steve (Mellisa) of Tazewell, Tenn.; four sisters, Becky Schwartz of Ottumwa, Pam Van Kleek of Oskaloosa, Melody Murphy of Burlingame, Kan., and Denise Gregory of Pella; and one brother, Lee Voege Jr. of California. He also is survived by three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his good buddies, Fred and George.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and his good buddy, Glenn Marshall ("that's two Ns and two Ls"), who he has now joined.
Mike was born Sept. 18, 1939, in Davenport, the son of Willard and Georgia Reynolds Bonney. He married Alice Koebke in 1959. They were later divorced. He later married Barbara Jo McKim in 1964; they were later divorced. The love of his life was Gloria Bernet for over 25 years.
Mike worked in maintenance for the city of Cedar Rapids; he retired from there after many years of service.
He became a Master Mason in 1973. He was a member of Springville Lodge No. 139, Worshipful Master of Kingston Lodge No. 676 in 2001, Cedar Rapids Scottish Rite and York Rite; Palestine Council No. 27, Apollo Commandery No. 26, Grand Commander in 1999 of the Grande Commandery Knights Templar of Iowa, El Kahir Shrine, Order of Quetzalcoatl, Royal Order of Scotland and Knight Mason.
Mike proudly served in the Air Force and enjoyed fishing with his family and Thursday night Texas Hold'Em.
Mike will be greatly missed and his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to the El Kahir Shrine Transportation Fund.
