Donald Marshall, 56, died Monday, March 17, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Don was born Feb. 11, 1958, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Robert E. and Betty Lou (Svensen) Marshall. The family lived in several towns around the Midwest, including Humboldt, Iowa, where Don graduated high school in 1976. Following high school, Don attained an AA degree from DMACC and continued his education in later years at the University of Iowa, AIB, DMACC and Grand View. Don spent his adult years living in Des Moines and was most recently employed as a supported life tech with Mainstream of Des Moines. Don was involved with many organizations and groups in Polk County that support people with primarily mental health disabilities.
Don is survived by sisters, Pam (Steve) Heisdorffer of Harper and Pattie (Mike) Kurtz of South English; a brother, Mike (Lara); and Jillian Marshall, Noah Morgan of Cedar Rapids and Cassandra, Joshua and Faith Morgan.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
