Donald LeRoy Bennett, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Feb. 3, 2021. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A private family service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of facemasks or shields is required.
Donald was born on Oct. 10, 1933, in Osborne, Iowa, to Charles and Hannah (Lange) Bennett. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He married Lois (Kuehl) in 1955 and they later divorced. He then married Kathryn Stone in 1986. He retired from Rockwell after 36 years of service as a machinist.
In retirement, Donald gave back to his community by volunteering to pack and serve boxed meals to those in need, donated blood at the Red Cross, and assisted at Veteran's Memorial Stadium during Kernels games. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cedar Rapids and was a longtime member of Echo Hill Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Bennett; and siblings, Kenneth, Carl, Jeanette and Dorothy Bennett.
Donald is survived by his children, Dave (Teresa) Bennett, Denise (Mark) Witte and Michael (LuJean) Bennett; stepdaughters, Ann Squires and Mary Hatfield; grandchildren, Travis and Ryan Bennett, Emily and Jake Witte, Melissa and Jessica Robinson, Gavin and Zach Squires and Lorraine Hatfield; along with several great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to donate to the local Red Cross.
