Donald Cutler was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Cedar Rapids to Harry O. and Josephine (Lord) Cutler. He graduated from McKinley High School then attended and graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in business in 1960. That fall, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Reserves until honorably discharged in 1966. Very proud of his country, he became a member of the American Legion. He was an alumnus of the University of Iowa as well as being a lifelong member of the fraternity Delta Tau Delta.
He began his successful underwriting career with Iowa National Mutual Insurance Co. of Cedar Rapids in 1963 and became a vice president of that department. After working with the company for 23 years, he moved to Auburn, Wash., in 1987. In Auburn, he achieved the position of vice president of commercial lines with Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance Co. in Enumclaw, Wash. While there, he continued his education and earned his CPCU designation, which is a master's degree in the industry. Don retired in 2002 and continued living in Auburn, Wash., with his wife. They relocated to Indian Land, S.C., in 2013 to be near their two daughters.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Arleta (Kahler) Cutler; son, John (Paula) Cutler of Federal Way, Wash.; daughters, Nicolle (John) Leddy and Krystina Cutler; grandchildren, Chloe and Camryn Cutler and Emma Leddy; as well as several nieces and nephews.
