Donald Lawrence, 78, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Monticello, where military honors will be accorded at the end of service. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. at the church. Private family interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairie-burg, at a later date.

Surviving are his wife, Carol; four children, Tammy (Jeff) Pingel, Grapevine, Texas, Greg (Janice) Lawrence, Marion, Gary (Amy) Lawrence, Monticello, and Jackie (Dale) Yousse, Monticello; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Lawrence, Cedar Rapids, and Rosemary (Karl) Slaman, San Bernadino, Calif.; and two brothers, Mike (Carol) and Jerry (Joanna), both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris and Irene; and two brothers, Rick and Dave.
Donald D. Lawrence was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Linn County, Iowa, the son of Linhart and Lavona Fousek Lawrence. Don attended the rural schools near his home. Don served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1961. He married Carol Robinson on July 13, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg. Don had worked as a carpenter, a painter for Jacque's Home Fashions, Iowa Manufacturing, Collins Radio and Farmstead Builders. He was employed at Energy Manufacturing in Monticello most of his working career and retired from there in 1998.
Don was active in A.A. as a Friend of Bill. He loved to fish, hunt, play cards and golf. Don could fix anything and taught his family how to fix anything. He was an exceptional gardener and had a massive garden when they lived in the country.
