Donald H. Knapp, 75, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Central City, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015, surrounded by his family.
Don is survived by Jane, his bride of almost 55 years; their children, Kevin (Terri) Knapp of Stanwood, Steve (Susan) Knapp of Lisbon, Tricia (Steve) Kummer of Marion and Pam (Jason) White of Louisville, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Kyle, Kelcie and Kade Knapp, Matthew, Mia and Micah Knapp and Samantha, Nevin and Morgan White; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Patricia Hoffman of Cedar Rapids and Karen (Darrell) Kintzle of Hiawatha; a brother, Terry (Judy) Knapp of Harlan; a brother-in-law, Frank (Mary) Ceynar of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Knapp; and brothers-in-law, Dean Hoffman and Kenny Hoffman.
Don was born March 2, 1940, in rural Linn County, to Howard and Norma (Smith) Knapp. He graduated from Coggon High School after also attending high school in Springville. It was at Coggon that he met the love of his life, Jane Ceynar. They were married Sept. 17, 1960.
Don and Jane farmed in the Ryan and then Coggon area for several years after which Don became a Realtor. Don enjoyed a lengthy career in real estate and thoroughly enjoyed serving his clients and making lifelong friends from every walk of life. For the last 22 years of his career he teamed up with his daughter, Tricia, to form the Knapp Team, one of his proudest undertakings as a Realtor. Don's schedule would not have been complete without a weekly dose of golf or bowling or maybe both. He enjoyed many deep friendships during these outings and would have loved to have experienced his last day on a golf course.
Of all the accomp-lishments in Don's life, none stood out more than being a husband and a dad. He was what every child would hope for, a teacher, a coach, an advisor and a firm hand. Lessons in life were never forced, but often sought. He showed how to persevere through difficulty and how to devote himself in marriage. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation with the family will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel.
