DONALD FRANCIS JENNINGS

Donald Francis Jennings, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at the Dennis and
Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha,
following an extended illness.
A 3 p.m. vigil with visitation from 3 to 6 p.m.
will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29, at Cedar Memorial,
4200 First Ave. NE. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at All Saints Catholic Church. Father Jack Flaherty will officiate at the service. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund to All Saints Catholic Church has been established.
Surviving are his wonderful wife, Lois Jennings; two children, Sheri (Dennis) Miller and Chris (Suzanne) Jennings; five grandchildren, Danielle (Ryan) Brady, Andrea (Brooks) Dechant, Ross Miller and Emily and Kylie Jennings; and five great-grandchildren, Kaia, Cael and Gavin Brady and Drake and Decker Dechant. He also is survived by his oldest brother, Bob Jennings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Angie Jennings; and brother, Jim Jennings.
Don was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Andy and Angie Brunsman Jennings. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Class of 1952. He continued his education at Loras College and received his master's in education from the University of Iowa. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a medical technician. He played basketball and baseball at I.C. and baseball at Loras College and in the Army. He married Lois Sedlacek on July 2, 1960. Don worked for Prairie Junior High as a school administrator and athletic director, retiring in 1992 after 35 years of service.
He was a member of School Administrators of Iowa. He coached football, basketball and baseball. He was awarded the first Iowa Junior High Athletic Director of the Year. Following retirement, he continued his love of teaching as an adjunct professor at Kirkwood Community College for 20 years.
He was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. He was a man of faith, and deeply loved his family and friends. Don had touched so many lives. His legacy lives on.
